Veronica Mars (TV series 2004–2007)

I dream of Lily.

I dream of Lily.

Olga’s Notes:

Note1: How often do we get a true women’s hero, without her promptly turning into everyone’s anti-hero? This process tends to be quick and seemingly unintentional, as in the case of Carrie Bradshaw. Intentional anti-heroes, of course, are altogether a different matter.

Here’s the list of my favourite female heroes/anti-heroes, random in order but not their nature, and off the top of my head:

1.     Morticia Addams (“The Addams Family”),

2.     Sarah Lund (“The Killing” – “Forbrydelsen”),

3.     Liz Lemon + Jenna Maroney (“30 Rock”),

4.     Selina Meyer and Amy Brookheimer (“Veep”),

5.     Bree Van De Kamp (“Desperate Housewives”),

6.     Debra Morgan (“Dexter”),

7.     Murphy Brown (“Murphy Brown”),

8.     Kima Greggs (“The Wire”),

9.     Betty Francis (“Mad Men”),

10.   Saga Norén (“The Bridge” – “Bron/Broen”),

11.    Molly Solverson + Peggy Blumquist (“Fargo”),

12.   Rayna Jaymes + Juliette Barnes (“Nashville”),

13.   Gloria Delgado-Pritchett (“Modern Family”),

14.   Vanessa Ives (“Penny Dreadful”),

15.   Laure Berthaud (“Spiral” – “Engrenages”),

16.   Patty Hewes (“Damages”), et al.

And before anyone gasps in disbelief, I will not be touching “Game of Thrones” on this site; not now and not ever. I have my reasons. Just please remember not to write any Season 7 spoilers in the comments box – I’m still waiting for the right time to have the all-episode binge, see.

Note2:  Any similarity to “13 Reasons Why” (2017) totally accidental, I’m sure.

Note3:  Veronica Mars is cool. Very cool. And on occasion, way too cool. Might be wrong on this one, but my spidey sense is telling me this could be down to men writing her lines.

Been there done that.

Been there done that.

Helena’s Notes:

Note1: Best female TV character since Buffy (and Willow, and Drusilla, and Cordelia and Anya). Bet it’s the California thing. As in: Buffy & co hail from Sunnydale, and Veronica from Neptune. Both in CA. Geddit?

Note2: Joss Whedon Himself did a cameo on “Veronica Mars”; the rumour I just invented has it that he liked the series so much he actually wanted to marry it.

Note3: I’ll tell you a little about Veronica: she’s this kickass high school detective operating from her father’s private eye office in Neptune, California. She’s sassy, she’s an outcast, and she takes shit from no-one (says stuff like, ‘It’s all fun and games till one of you gets my foot up your ass,’ and ‘I hope we’re still friends after I taser you’). Veronica also solves cases: one amuse bouche per episode, plus the big murder-mystery banquet of a case we get to feast on throughout each season. So… what’s with all the food analogy.

Note4: Veronica Mars is cool. Full stop.
